If you're ever in Hong Kong ...

Hi Skaters and Skater-families,
We at SKATEABLE love to travel and always throw in the skateboards and gear when we are on the road. There is something special about skating a new park in a far away land.
HONG KONG is an exciting city by itself but it is also a great mid-point to break up a long-haul flight. My family and I always (yes, always) spend 3 or 4 days in Hong Kong on our way to Europe or North America and on the way back. We like to stay in Tung Chung. Tung Chung has good hotels, excellent shopping, quick access to anywhere else in Hong Kong via the MTR (ultra-modern subway) and, of course, the Tung Chung Skatepark.

The Novotel Citygate is our favourite hotel. It has a free airport shuttle and connects with the Citygate Shopping Mall and MTR. But best of all, it's only a 5 to 10 minute sidewalk push from the Novotel Citygate to Tung Chung Skatepark.
While the skaters are at the park, the non-skaters can do some Citygate outlet shopping. There is a well-equipped supermarket (Taste) on the lower floor of the mall which has wonderful takeaway food. Hong Kong Disneyland is also close by.
Tung Chung Skatepark (built by Australian company Convic) has a mid-sized bowl with pool coping that has been designed for skaters of all abilities. The shallow end of the bowl can also be used as a mini ramp. There is a street section with a mellow 4 foot end transition which is perfect for practicing stalls and grinds. Regrettably(?) scooters are not permitted in the park so it's all skateboarders and the occasional rollerblader.

There are other great skateparks in Hong Kong. Tseung Kwan O (aka TKO) and Lai Chi Kok skateparks have excellent setups as well. There is also an indoor park at Kwun Tung. Each of these locations is accessible via the MTR but, in my opinion, staying at Tung Chung and skating the Tung Chung Skatepark is the best option for the transiting traveller.
Have a great time in Hong Kong. It is truly a World City.
The World is SKATEABLE,
Peter
